River's Edge - West River

Our West River site is "Homebase" and where this wonderful adventure began. Privately owned for 34 years, Teece and Doug Nowell raised their 3 children playing in these woods.

Situated on 10 beautiful wooded acres with a gentle stream and mature trees children can be heard laughing with glee and excitement and gasping with wonder as they explore, play, run, climb and experience the nurturing effects of nature unleashed. Wildlife abounds as does many native plants.

There is not a more perfect location to encourage children to play, to learn and to realize nature is part of their soul.

River's Edge - West River is pleased to offer a strong variety of nature programs. We believe the powerful healing and calming effects of nature are beneficial for everyone from the very youngest to the very oldest. We are adding programs regularly so check back in or gives us a shout out if you don't see what you are interested in, we love custom designing programs to suit your needs/desires.

Dear to our heart is our weekly nature immersion programs for children aged 3-11 September - May. Our Nature's Artists on Monday's,  our Nature's Explorers on Tuesday & Thursday, our Nature's Survivalists  on Wednesday and our Nature's Scientists on Friday foster physical, emotional and mental balance through an authentic connection with the natural world.

Nature Immersion is defined as “unstructured free time in nature resulting in an intimate, deep and personal connection to the natural world”.  Our goal is to increase awareness of and connection to the natural world in order to foster compassion and empathy for the earth and all its inhabitants. River's Edge invites children to engage all their senses and increase their observation skills through it's commitment to a child-driven flow learning, emergent curriculum and inquiry-based teaching style.

River's Edge is committed to the development of each child we serve; documentation of weekly group experiences will be emailed to each family.  We will be off the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and spring break in April.

Upon registration you will receive the parent handbook with more detailed information. Don't miss this wonderful unique opportunity to foster curiosity, independence and confidence in your child!

A nature immersion program designed to nurture children through nature play.
